New Heritage Theatre Group (NHTG) is the oldest Black nonprofit theater company in New York City, established in 1964 under the name New Heritage Repertory Theatre by the late Roger Furman, a revered playwright, director, actor and lecturer who began his career in the 1940s with the American Negro Theatre in Harlem. 

NHTG’s mission was to present entertaining, informative, and quality productions at affordable prices. NHTG productions seek to preserve and institutionalize classic works of Black theater. In1983, Voza Rivers, an award winning music and theatre producer took over the company. In 1997 Jamal Joseph, an award-winning writer,director, documentary filmmaker and educator, joined NHTG as Executive Artistic Director. Under the leadership of both Mr. Rivers and Mr. Joseph, NHTG expanded its mission and transformed the theatre into a leading nonprofit arts organization serving tens of thousands of community members and youth annually. http://www.newheritagetheatre.org
